Gotta have a have a Plan A, B, C, and even a Plan D

You know how those Enterprise Car Rental people will pick you up and take you to one of their locations? One day, this guy picked me up and we started talking about careers. He said to me, "Lady, the bottom line is that you always gotta have a Plan A. That's like your golden ticket. But then you gotta also have a Plan B, Plan C, and even a Plan D. That way, you have your road paved for you and you don't get down when things don't work out because you've got a different plan waiting right there for you!"

It’s just one look, then let go...

I'm sitting in the waiting room at the hospital, patiently (no pun intended), waiting for more tests to be done for the most precious person in my life.  It's crazy how there is no control, all I can do is wait to hear the results.  It's been four weeks of watching, observing the agony and misery.  I'm sad, mad, no angry, because I cannot do anything.  All I can do is wait...

And then, without notice, up pops a note titled, "Regaining Balance on the Ice of Chaos." Even though we are about to go into a confusing, unsettling situation, we feel like we are slipping on ice losing control and our balance. There is a way to regain balance, without falling. Let go of the force,  re-balance!  All it takes is just one look and then let go!

Nate the Dragon: Write a story about a dream that you have...

Here is a story written by one of the students at the school we visited on Tuesday...Write a story about a dream that you have; something extraordinary, tell how you can reach for the stars and make your dream come true.

Grade 4

“There are families and kids who don’t have a lot of money, clothes, food, and toys. Sometimes other kids will be mean by calling them names or ignoring them. That makes me feel really sad and left out. It makes it hard for them to make friends. There are things I can do to help those kids. I can donate my used clothes and toys. I can say ‘hi’ and be nice to them. I can tell a teacher if they are bullied. Those things will help make those kids feel better about themselves.”

“My dream is that everyone gets along. I hope someday everyone stops bullying. The world would be a happier place without bullying. People need to treat others nicely all the time. If I would see someone being bullied, I would get an adult. I would tell that person to stop being mean. If there was no bullying, everyone would feel safe and happy.”

Health Tip: Active Lifestyle...

Any activity that gets your heart rate up and moves your muscles qualifies as physical activity. Some ideas to live a more active lifestyle are gardening, cleaning your home, washing your car by hand, skating, walking briskly or bouncing on a mini trampoline.

Nate the Dragon: Write a story about a time when you were bullied or have bullied someone...

Here is a story written by one of the students at the school we visited on Tuesday...  Write a story about a time when you were bullied or have bullied someone, explain how that made you feel and what you did to handle the situation.
Grade 3
“My friend was being bullied by another student. I said, “Stop, that is not very nice to do to him.” The bully kept on being a bully. So I said again, “How would you like it if I kept on doing that to you?” Finally, he stopped hurting my friend. I learned that it is important to help someone that is being a victim to bullying. If you are brave, a bully doesn’t have a chance!”

“I have a dream that I will become an excellent basketball and soccer player. It is my dream to become a professional basketball or soccer player. I will need to practice, practice, practice, and practice to reach this dream. I think I am already good at both of these sports, so my dream will be easy to achieve.”

Recipe for today; Low-Fat Cream of Tomato Soup..

Low-Fat Cream of Tomato Soup...

  • Pour tomatoes with their juice into a saucepan, and mix in onion, sugar, salt, cloves, and black pepper; bring to a boil over medium heat, reduce heat to a simmer, and cook until the onion is tender, about 10 minutes.
  • Pour the soup into a blender, filling the pitcher no more than halfway full. Hold down the lid of the blender with a folded kitchen towel, and carefully start the blender, using a few quick pulses to get the soup moving before leaving it on to puree. Puree in batches until smooth and pour into a clean pot. Alternately, you can use a stick blender and puree the soup right in the cooking pot.
  • Return blended soup to the saucepan, and stir in the evaporated milk. Place over low heat, and cook just until hot, about 1 minute.

Health Tip: Strength training...

Grade 4

“One day I wish that there would be world peace. There would be no more fighting. I would like to try to make a difference. I hope there will be no more homeless people on the streets. There is too much violence and war. Soldiers are risking their lives to save ours. I always try to make a difference. This world really needs peace. This world really needs to change a lot. So we need to change. Let’s step up and change this world!”

“My dream is that there would be no robbers or people who kill other people. I hope that all people will follow the Ten Commandments. I also hope that all people will follow the Beatitudes. I hope they will go to Mass. I hope they will be on God’s side. I can help this by spreading the good news of God. People can also help by forgiving people who have hurt them. They can also take time to go to Reconciliation so God can forgive their sins. These are ways God would want us to live.”

“Red Rover”

Do you remember the childhood game “Red Rover.”? I certainly do! My arm hurts just thinking about it!

The game goes like this:

  • Two teams form long lines.
  • One team invites a child from the other team to come over.
  • “Red rover, red rover let whoever come over!!"
  • Remember!!!!
  • Okay, so the person invited one runs to the other side; 'because' he/she has been invited.
  • But when he/she gets to the other side, the kids are locked arm and arm to form a strong barrier so he/she can’t get through.
  •  Now the strange part about this game is that if you actually break through the line or break an arm of someone whichever comes first, the reward is that you don’t get to stay.
  • You go back to the other side and take someone with you.

So let’s see:

  • We have an invitation
  • response
  • barrier
  • confrontation
  • result!
Complicated to say the least.

Why create all of this suffering,
Why not invite others to come, chat and have fun?
Place the barriers or confrontation aside.
Why not live!
Life is not a game.
Life is the real deal!
